Kärl med lock i björkträ

This piece was made for use as a storage vessel for spices, trinkets, coffee to take camping or on a hike, etc. It is called a shrink pot and the technique uses a hollowed fresh round log in which a dry piece is inserted into a slot for the base. As the wood dries it shrinks around the base holding it in place. These are typically not water tight vessels but are great for dry storage. It is made from Birch Wood from the woodland surrounding our home in Sweden. 

Pot Care:

If you need to wash your container do so in warm to hot water with soap; towel or air dry with the lid off. Regular use is the best way to keep your wooden piece conditioned. Every few years, if you need, you can use a food grade wood finish on only the outside of the container. If oil gets on the inside it has a higher chance to go rancid/omit a taste onto what is stored inside.
