Sy-& Hantverk - Hand Broom & Brush Making Workshop - February 2025 , Stockholm

Friday 21st - 13:30-15:30
Saturday 22nd - 16-18
Sunday 23rd - 10:30-12:30
Brooms are an essential home-making item. They are used for tending our home space, workshops and for altars & rituals. A morning sweep is a meditative task that starts my day. Industrial machines are taking over crafts that were once taught and passed through the generations. Join me to make this simple home item that you will use everyday, and will likely gift to everyone you know. You will learn the basics of making small hand brooms with minimal materials and tools. All classes will provide tools and materials.
What we will cover:
During class you will have the opportunity to learn & make 2 hand brooms (materials are included in the fee)
We will cover a bit of the history and lineage of this tradition of broom making. Three different broom materials will be available for your to choose from.
A few different techniques and designs will be demonstrated that you can practice in class or take notes on for your continued making at home.
Additional materials will be available for purchase.
Uses for Brushes & Hand Brooms:
For all surfaces of your home!
I use them on the floor, fireplace, tables, counter, workbenches, craft room, camper, tent, sauna, garden shed, etc. They are both beautiful and useful!
They are also wonderful for altars and special places to you. And when not in use they are a great addition of decor to your home. I have felt so much more connected to my home spaces when I started filling them with handmade pieces. I am sure you will enjoy both making and using these brushes/brooms.
You don’t need to bring anything but yourself and a curiosity to learn. This is a very approachable craft. No experience necessary.
The workshop will be held as a part of Sy-& Hantverk Festivalen held at Alvsjö Mässan in Stockholm. Entry tickets into the market is booked separately via there website or in person.
The workshop will be taught in English. If language is a barrier we are confident you will learn even if you don’t speak or understand English. So much of the learning depends on seeing and with the help of others for translation we will make it through.
