The Art & Craft of Broom Making - 22nd-23rd August 2026 LONDON, UK
Bringing beauty into the mundane. Gather with a small group to craft brooms and brushes together.
What we will cover:
How to choose & process broom handles
Binding Handled Brooms
Sewing in the round (cobbwebber & hearth brooms)
Flat Sewn Brooms
Small brooms and Brushes
Stalk Weaving
Sorting Material for binding
3 different materials for hand brooms and brushes
Tool use & care and different materials.
This 2 day workshop will cover the basics of Appalachian broom making. Each student will make 2 handled brooms (1 cobbwebber & 1 full sweep) + 1-3 hand brooms & brushes with different materials & designs. (If you wish to make more hand brooms/brushes you can purchase additional material!)
There is limited space in the workshop! (a minimum of 4 is required to run the course)
The workshop will run 2 days - Saturday 9:30-17 & Sunday 9:30-17. There is a possibility that we end early if we can complete all the projects!
MATERIAL COST
Materials costs are not included in the fee and will be around 60-80 gbp - paid for at the end of the workshop based on how many pieces you made/material was used. Payments can be made with cash or card.
FOOD
Pleases bring your own lunch.
If you are keen to bring a biscuit or fruit to share that is so welcome.
OTHER NOTES
Additional broom materials will be available for purchase at the workshop.
